Description

A charango is a small, high-pitched South American stringed instrument traditionally made with an armadillo shell body, featuring five pairs of strings and commonly used in Andean folk music. A tres is a Cuban stringed instrument with three pairs (or courses) of strings. Normally, a Tres will have steel strings, which gives it a bright, percussive sound that’s a key ingredient in certain kinds of traditional Cuban music. The instrument sampled here, however, has nylon strings, which gives it a more mellow, melancholic sound. Here’s the video:
