Description

While working on my first professional feature film, I realized I didn’t have suitable low-end drum libraries for the film. I began recording floor toms at a very high sample rate of 192 kHz, allowing me to slow them down and pitch them lower without sacrificing sound quality. The results were exactly what I was looking for, not aggressive trailer-style hits, but something bigger and more epic than conventional drums.

That process later inspired the creation of this Decent Sampler instrument. To achieve even more unique sounds, I replaced traditional wooden drumsticks with soft felt mallets, giving the drums a smoother, more rounded character that blends more subtly into the atmosphere.

The samples are intentionally raw to allow clean pitching down up to two octaves. For heavier results, try adding compression, saturation, or multiband processing such as OTT.
