Description
I’ve succumbed to a real microcassette obsession lately – an adventure that started with a single vocal sample recorded on a single handheld Panasonic dictaphone. This is that sample library.

For a long time, I’ve had a fascination with these devices. As a kid, I remember seeing them in catalogs: they seemed less like a real tool, and more like a fantasy – the epitome of cool business technology. Come to think of it, I’m not sure I ever saw one actually being used in a serious way. Although, I guess now I can say that I’ve used one in a serious way, although probably not for the purpose it was intended for. The process of recording this little sample library could not have been simpler: I hit RECORD, I sang my entire vocal range into the recorder, and then I hit STOP.

The tape recorder warbled, and my pitch wasn’t perfect either, but the end result is still quite pretty: a sort of one-man mellotron choir. I hope you enjoy it! If you want to see the full extent of my microcassette obsession, check out the much larger MEMOS library I did with Venus Theory.
