Description

For the past four weeks, I’ve been playing around with the BASTL Kalimba, a small device that aims to bring the magic of the African Kalimba to the world of synthesizers. After releasing a video about this novel instrument here, a few patrons reached out and asked me to sample it, so I have.
This unique device has two different synthesizer engines: a physical modeling engine, which produces synthetic plucked strings sounds, and an FM synthesis engine, which tends to be more glassy and ’80s sounding. With these 11 presets, I’ve not only sought to capture the range of timbres produced by BASTL’s little machine. It’s worth noting that two of the presets (P07 and P08) make use of external effects.
Enjoy!
